Christian Education

For Children – Emmanuel’s Sunday School offers classes for those age 3 though elementary school from September until June. Children begin each Sunday in Church at 10:00 AM with their families, and then go to their classes about 20 minutes into the service. Classes end at about 11:15 at which time the children rejoin their families for refreshment and fellowship. Their courses makes use of one of the standard curricula published for children of the Episcopal Church.

For Our Youth – Young people of Middle and High School age gather each Sunday at 9:00 AM for their class. Topics recently have included the “Good Sex” curriculum, presented by trained leaders, a look at the popular book A Purpose Driven Life, and English Church History. This time is also set aside for planning some of the Youth Groups trips and activities and special youth-led worship services.

For Adults – An informal discussion group for adults meets each Sunday at 9:00 AM for coffee and (usually) a look at topics from the devotional series Forward Day By Day.

Wednesday Nights – Following the 5:30 PM Eucharist, a group of Emmanuelites gets together for a pot-luck supper and study. One branch of this group has been meeting for 15 years looking at spiritual poetry from ancient and modern, Christian and non-Christian sources. Another more recent addition has been studying A Purpose Driven Life along with the youth class.

Wednesday Nights in Lent – The same schedule of worship, pot-luck and study is kept in Lent, but it is expanded into a series of programs on more general topic of interest to the whole Parish community. Activities are also offered for children.

Vacation Bible School – One week during the summer, Emmanuel offers mornings devoted to the study of a Bible story, along with arts and crafts, music and dance, and recreation. Children from the community and friends are always welcome. A snack is served mid-morning, and we have a Pageant and Picnic at Noon on the last day. There is no charge for our Bible School.
