Ministry to Aging

Senior Affordable Adult Living is a project undertaken jointly by Emmanuel Parish, St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Parish, Christ Lutheran Church, the Western Maryland Health System, the City of Cumberland and Interfaith Housing of Western Maryland.

Plans are proceeding to develop a community of affordable homes for middle income elderly persons within the city limits, near to the new hospital site and downtown.

Interfaith Housing will ultimately become the agency developing the SAIL project with the Churches underwriting the start-up costs.  A fund-raising luncheon is scheduled for the fall of 2005 at Emmanuel in support.

As the project comes to reality in 2006, the congregations involved will be developing ministries and services on site.

Emmanuel has been a part of the Parish Nursing Program of the Western Maryland Health System since 2001.  Our Nurse Sandra Lee, R.N. conducts regular health and blood pressure screenings after Church along with a program on healthy eating.  As well, she and a team of assisting nurses regularly visit homes of those recently discharged from the hospital or otherwise confined.  She also coordinates transportation for medical needs.
