Welcome to Emmanuel Episcopal Church
Thank you for your interest in touring our beautiful and historical building. The church dates back over 100 years and sits on top of the hill that once was the site of Fort Cumberland. It now overlooks the city of Cumberland, Maryland. Some of the many treasures you will find are three 3 Tiffany windows and religious artifacts, a passage way that was once part of the Underground railroad along with historic photos and a diorama of Ft Cumberland.
We are excited in your interest of the tour. The docents at Emmanuel are volunteers and many work full time jobs. We generally ask for 24 up to 72 hours request time to respond to or conduct your tour. For larger groups (over 15 people) we may need 2 docents to conduct the tour. The tunnels can be difficult to navigate therefore; for safety reasons it may not be advisable for those with difficulty ascending or descending steep stairs. We advise against stroller and dogs (unless service animals). Persons can decide to take the tour and stay back in
the sanctuary during the tunnel portion of the tour.
Once your request has been accepted, we will have a docent assigned to your tour. They will contact you by email and possible exchange phone numbers. If you need to cancel your tour, please contact us.
There is parking in the Emmanuel parking lot off of Washington street. Our docent will meet you inside of the church in the entry way. The cost is $10 per person over the age of 18. We look forward spending time with you discover our Parish.
